NI PEARS
We are here for any eye related emergencies

At Kingsbridge Opticians and Hearing Care our optometrists are accredited to carry out the NIPEARs scheme. This scheme is designed to help anyone with a sudden eye concern.

What is a sudden eye problem?

  • A sudden change in vision or sudden vision loss
  • A red or painful eye
  • A sudden change in/new flashes and floaters
  • Foreign body in eye

You can self-refer yourself for an emergency eye appointment by giving us a call and a member of staff will go through a triage form to determine your symptoms and be able to offer advice. A GP may also refer you to this scheme. If you qualify for the scheme, you will be seen within 48 hours and there is no cost for this appointment as it is covered by NHS. You must be registered with a GP in Northern Ireland to be able to avail of the scheme and have a valid HSC number.

Most eye problems can be managed by one of our optometrists, but on some occasions, you may need to be referred to eye casualty to see an ophthalmologist (eye doctor). If you have a sudden eye concern, make sure you give us a call before heading to eye casualty as you will not be seen without a prior arranged appointment and referral from an optometrist.

if you have any concerns do not hesitate to contact us on one of our numbers below for advice or to arrange an appointment or fill out our Online Enquiry Form.
